    1. Thanks! And there was no confidence involved. Any sense of confidence was added in post-production by the special effects team. :D

  2. Interesting premise, although never put yourself down by calling the video silly! Thanks for sharing this with us. Katherine Ernst #26

    1. This was my first attempt ever at a vlog, so I feel quite silly. Thank you!

  3. Hey Laura,

I agree with the other comments — I thought you did great! You knew your story like nothing else and I love the passion you showed for it. It sounds like a really cool combination of The X-Files and Animorphs, with some dragon mythology thrown in for good measure. And I really like the situation that you put your MC in... what a choice that she has to make.

    Good luck!

    1. Thank you! I'm glad the trembling fear I felt recording it didn't seem to come through.

  4. Dragons and Werewolves working for the government, Hm, is this fiction? :) Seriously, sounds great Laura--best luck!

  5. You did a great job! :) I remember reading this query in the GUTGAA contest... love the inventive premise. Best of luck!

  8. Love dragons! Nice clear delivery and you explained so well what the story is about and what the stakes are. Good luck to you!

  9. Love the idea of a dragon shifter and I love shape shifters in general. Sounds fun. Good luck! #30

  10. Good pitch! You looked very professional and kept a conversational tone that would be good in front of an agent. Good luck!

    1. Thank you! I still think it's easier to stay on point when you're talking to a human instead of a lens! :D

  11. I love that the dragon is hiding by pretending to be a werewolf! :) And she's 4000 years old? Great conflict--so intriguing!

  12. A Dragon living as a werewolf ... that I have to read!

  13. Hi Laura, our stories have similar concepts, as far as shapeshifters and government agencies. But a dragon under the guise of a werewolf sounds really interesting! Good luck :)

    1. That's exactly what I loved about this contest! It's great to be able to share more than the contents of a two paragraph query letter with agents. :)

  15. How fun! I like the dragon concept. Thanks for sharing!

  16. Okay, I'm not picking this because the MC has my name, just saying. I'm picking it because the premise is intriguing. Mention in your video that it's an urban fantasy but the heading with the genre doesn't say it. It references paranormal elements. I'd like to switch that with urban fantasy, if that's okay. Anyway, I choose you to continue to the agent round on my blog!

    1. I changed the paranormal to urban fantasy. I've been having genre issues. I should stop doubting myself and keep it UF/Thriller.

And Thalia has been a Drake since before I ever began reading writing blogs and learned of you. So there's no appearance of impropriety. :D

      Thank you so much! Wheeeee!

  17. Cool concept!

Very nicely done, Laura. Best of luck with it. And great to meet you! :D

  18. By the way, I'm like you, about writing--I have to write to survive.

A 4,000+ year old dragon-werewolf. = P I like the story. I kinda wish we'd had a little more drama in your voice, with maybe some 'ums' edited out, just because my ADD-prone brain had trouble concentrating without some bang and kapow. Are you looking for more beta-readers, by any chance?

  19. Lovely premise! What a great blend of traditional fantasy elements and the supernatural. Congrats on making the top 30, too!

  20. So. Cool. I really love this premise-- honestly, I was turned off from werewolf/shifter stories thanks to overload... but this is something I would pick up and read in a heartbeat. I love that they work for the government!

    Go #TeamDrake!!!

  21. An interesting way to pitch a book. Easier for the agent and publisher too, I would imagine.
